Preventive Services

As the old proverb goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Parasite prevention is a big part of maintaining the health and happiness of your pet. This includes flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, which reduces the risk of life-threatening illness in your little friend.

Vaccination Programs

Vaccination programs help to safeguard your pet against preventable illnesses. The first few months are especially crucial, and we recommend taking your new kitten or puppy in for scheduled checkups and vaccinations so they can live a long and healthy life.

Medical Assessment

A proper diagnosis of what ails your pet requires a full medical examination. We start by looking at their eyes, ears, and skin. After that, we’ll check for cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, and skeletal anomalies that may indicate a problem. A medical exam may also include blood, urine, and fecal analyses to check their kidneys, liver, pancreas, and endocrine systems.

Nutritional Counselling

Nutrition is a big part of keeping your pet healthy and happy (and well fed). The amount of food available can seem overwhelming, so let us help you sort through the options and find the one that suits your pet’s needs best. Whether you have a cat who needs to lose some weight, a dog with dental issues, or just a picky eater, we’ll help you find the food that fits.

Microchip Pet Identification

With microchipping, you can feel secure knowing that, even if your beloved pet gets lost, they can always be traced back to you. Microchipping is a safe and permanent way to identify your pet and gives them the best chance of getting home safely. A chip the size of a grain of rice is implanted in the loose skin at the back of their neck. A vet can scan it to retrieve your contact details.

Clinical Dog Examination

Radiology

Radiographs are also called x-rays. Non-invasive radiology can help diagnose injuries that might otherwise go unnoticed. Pets, and cats especially, often hide their pain, so using radiographs can help find injuries and develop treatment plans.

Dentistry: Maintain Your Pet's Dental Health

Dental (or Periodontal) disease is a common issue among pets, often starting with tartar buildup that harbours harmful bacteria in their mouths. This bacteria can lead to gingivitis, gum recession, and even cavities. If left untreated, these bacteria can spread, potentially affecting major organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys. Preventative dental care is crucial for your pet's overall health. Our team at Goldenvale Veterinary Hospital is dedicated to discussing preventive measures, such as dental diets, chews, or demonstrating how to brush your pet's teeth.

When tartar buildup becomes significant, the ideal action is a complete dental scaling and polish under general anesthesia. This procedure allows us to thoroughly clean tartar from under the gum line and on the teeth's interior surfaces. Delaying treatment may necessitate dental extractions under anesthesia. As part of our commitment to providing a high level of care, Goldenvale Veterinary Hospital offers digital dental radiographs to fully assess any damage to tooth roots.

Therapeutic Laser:
Advanced Pain Relief for Your Pet

Veterinarian with Dog

Therapeutic laser therapy uses the science of biostimulation to accelerate healing. Whether your pet is ageing, recovering from surgery or trauma, or experiencing everyday discomfort, this cutting-edge technology offers drug-free, surgery-free, and pain-free relief. Our Companion deep tissue laser therapy has no known side effects and provides non-invasive treatment options.

Depending on the condition, pets can experience relief after just one treatment, though chronic conditions typically benefit from a series of sessions. If you're considering laser therapy for your pet, don't hesitate to schedule an appointment to explore how this innovative treatment can improve their quality of life.

End of Life Care

If only our pets could live forever.

It’s not easy to think about the time when our pets leave us. At Goldenvale Veterinary Hospital, we provide compassionate and caring end-of-life services, euthanasia and cremation, so your pet can have a peaceful departure from this life.

We offer a peaceful and tranquil setting, either by the fireplace in the doctor’s office or outside by the pond (weather permitting). We also provide complimentary paw prints so you have something to remember them by.

We use AVA Pet Crematorium, but you are welcome to make any arrangement with a crematorium of your choice.
